C O N D U C T O R

After receiving choral conducting tuition from Nigel Perrin and Roger Heaton, James made his conducting debut in June 2009 directing Gorecki's anthem "Totus Tuus" with the Bath Spa University Choir. In 2010 he went on to conduct Handel's "Zadok the Priest" with the university orchestra and choir, as part of the opening ceremony Party in The City for the annual Bath International Music Festival.

Recent highlights have also included a joint collaboration conducting Michael Tippett's "5 Negro Spirituals" with Elizabeth Hales and the Bath Spa University Choir at Bath Abbey for the opening ceremony Party in the City in the 2011 Bath International Music Festival.

Since his appointment as the Principal Accompanist for the Churchdown Male Voice Choir, James has also assisted as a Deputy Musical Director in their rehearsals. Most recently, James conducted a consort of singers from Philomusica of Gloucestershire & Worcestershire in a performance of his own composition, "O Magnum Mysterium" in their 2014 Christmas Concerts to great success.

James was appointed the position of Musical Director for the Grande Royale Theatre Company for their recent production of Musical Magic 2, which ran at the Playhouse Theatre, Cheltenham.
