As an accompanist, James has worked as the repetiteur of the university's opera and musical theatre productions for 3 successive years for productions of "The Magic Flute" in 2008, "Don Giovanni" and for the musical of "A Little Night Music" both in 2010. He also performed in the band for "Seussical The Musical" in 2009. James has worked with a range of eminent conductors, including Gavin Carr, Nigel Perrin and Jason Thornton. James also regularly worked with Roger Heaton as both a choral accompanist and orchestral pianist.
James also worked with the cast of "Suor Angelica", which was performed as part of an opera double bill including "Gianni Schicci" in late January 2011. During his time at university, he was the longest serving accompanist for both the university choir and the chamber choir during the last 3 years of his studies.
After finishing his MMus Performance course at Bath Spa, he returned to Gloucester in October 2011. In January 2012, James was appointed Deputy Accompanist with the Churchdown Male Voice Choir, and now holds the post as Accompanist. The range of soloists James has accompanied include members from the choir as well as Kathryn Skipp, Bill Armiger, Sue Black, Kate Bennett and more recently, Ralph Barnes, Jeff Bourton, Danielle Smithson, as well as Bernadette Johns, Willow Burden, Rebecca Grant-Jones and even Wynne Evans. James accompanied the Churchdown Choral Society in their summer concert in early July, and continued as their acting accompanist up to December 2012.
James continues as the accompanist for the Innsworth Military Wives Choir in Gloucester for their concerts and events since 2013. James has been working as a rehearsal accompanist for the Cotswold Savoyards since 2015 and will be soon resuming with their upcoming rehearsals of their next show, "Singing in the Rain" which is set for a performance run at Cheltenham's Everyman Theatre later in the Spring of 2023. James has also accompanied in the Gloucestershire Young Musician and RIBI Gloucestershire Rotary Young Musician competition and is also a registered accompanist for the Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts. James also works as an accompanist for ABRSM and Trinity exams for all Grade levels.
